Welcome to the BOP Golf League

About the BOP League

Welcome back BOPer’s,

Pre-Season Meeting - Emerald Isle Feb 28, 2026 from 1100-1400.

All teams are encouraged to attend, but new members/teams are STRONGLY encouraged.

$250/team league fee can be paid at this meeting, either cash or checks made out to "BOP Golf".

The 2026 golf season is rapidly approaching.  In the past the committee has tweaked a few important points and rules, this year also has changes.

New divisions are listed at the end of this message!

First and foremost, the point of the golf league is to have fun and play competitive matches.  We highly encourage everyone to check the BOP league website. Teams have changed divisions, handicaps have been updated and all team info is available via the website.  The committee has established each team’s handicap using data based on scores, course ratings and course slope that were played throughout the year.  We also observed the trending handicap for returning teams.

2 conferences - PGA and Korn Ferry.  The league is set up with competitive divisions, playing against teams that have similar skill levels.  The stroke calculator is included on the website for reference.  This goal is to experience strong matches as we enter the 2026 season.  The season will consist of 8 matches in all divisions.  If your division has more than 9 teams you will play an 8-team schedule determined by the committee.  Divisions will have a point person from the committee to help answer questions and monitor the division to ensure everyone is on schedule to complete their matches before the last day of division matches, Sun.  Aug. 16th, 2026.  Playoffs for each conference will begin Mon.  Aug. 17th and continue until there is a final match.  The Ryder cup event was well attended in 2025, thanks to all who came out to Hilldale to play.  This year we will again have a Ryder cup event late Sept. or early Oct.  Follow the website for updates on this and other events.

Again, this is a league of active and retired firemen from the CFD.  Subs were an issue last year and we believe we’ve come up with the best solution for all.

Substitute players

Any team that is in need of a substitute - the team members MUST notify his division point person ASAP.  No matches can be played until the sub has been approved by the full committee.  Any sub MUST play a minimum of 4 matches for the team to be eligible for the playoff bracket.  Example: A substitute player comes in with 3 matches remaining.  This team can finish the season and will be eligible to finish and place in their division for prize money associated with division placing and birdies but WILL NOT be seeded in playoff bracket.

Handicap adjustments during season play

All new teams, teams requiring a substitute or a team with special circumstances will have their team handicap reviewed after 4 matches and the committee will make a handicap adjustment in accordance with their posted scores if warranted.

As we have done throughout our careers at the firehouse, be mindful of each other when setting up matches.  Cooperation is dependent on all teams.  Everyone understands schedules change; however, this is a golf league.  We all want to golf and have fun.  We want to avoid multiple cancellations.  If a match cannot be agreed upon then it should be brought to the attention of the division committee person after 2 attempts to schedule and/or being canceled.  The bottom line is it is up to each team to schedule matches and play.  Don’t wait until the last few weeks of the season to get matches played.  4 ½ months to play, get a few in early.

Points of interest

Team payouts - top 4 teams in ea. division of each conference and total birdie payouts.

Season begins Apr. 1st and last day to play matches Sun. Aug. 16th.

Playoff matches begin after Aug. 17th and will continue to a final match by Oct.

NEW - Playoffs - a match completed resulting in a tie will be subject to the new playoff tiebreaker.  The teams will call their division point person and holes will be drawn from a radomizer website.  Example: tied after 18 holes the radomizer pulls hole 12.  Team A won the hole.  They are the winner of the match.  If that hole was tied then holes will be pulled until a winner is determined.

Top 4 teams from each division paid.  All playoff teams from each division eligible to be seeded will be set into a playoff bracket for each conference determined by TOTAL POINTS, WINS, HEAD TO HEAD and BIRDIES.

PGA - Course total yardage between 6100 and 6500 yards.  The HOME team will determine which color tee box will be used.  If it is a combo course, you can play it.  If not and the yardage needs to be adjusted, the VISITING team will determine and adjust tee box to use on the individual hole(s) to meet the required yardage.

Korn Ferry - Course total yardage between 5800 and 6100 yards.  The HOME team will determine which color tee box will be used.  If it is a combo course, you can play it.  If not and the yardage needs to be adjusted, the VISITING team will determine and adjust tee box to use on the individual hole(s) to meet the required yardage.

We play a 2-man best ball.  The ball selected to be played should be marked and then played within 1 club length of the mark from tee box to green fringe area.  When the ball is in fringe cut or rough cut of green, ball can only be moved the length of a putter grip (no more than 12 inches.)  The ball needs to be played on the SAME CUT of grass as the mark.  No improvement of lie.  (Cannot move ball from rough to fairway, or from fringe to green.)

Balls on greens shall be marked and played within 1 putter head length.

Point of entry for OB or in a water hazard.  Penalty stroke assessed.  The ball can be placed back or sideways but no closer to the hole.  The drop should be agreed upon by both teams.  No provisional balls will be played.

If a ball is believed to be not found without being in a water hazard or OB and provisional balls played, then an original ball is found in the process, the original ball can be played with no problem. There is not a need to announce your intentions, it is assumed.  The goal is to have fun every match.

All matches are considered complete after 10 holes played and scored due to weather.

If a player is injured during the course of the match it may continue, the team with the injury is NOT allowed 2 shots by the uninjured player.  The sole player will continue the match playing only his single shot.

Any matches that cannot be agreed upon by the last week of match play - the committee will determine 3 days for teams to pick to play.  ALL matches need to be completed for seeding of playoffs.  If a suitable day cannot be agreed upon by both teams each will lose. 1.5 pts from their total points in standings for ea. outstanding match.  Bottom line COMPLETE all your matches, it will determine playoff seedings.

All HOME teams are responsible for entering the scores on the league website asap.  This will ensure up to date standing.  Remember to record scores, pts and birdies as there are payouts for birdies at the end of the season.  No teams should enter a score or determine point distribution for matches not played.  Please complete all matches scheduled.  Teams that do not complete the matches will have pts deducted per the rules and not asked to return next year.

If a match has been scheduled, it should then be played as agreed upon by both teams.   Any team that forfeits a match will not be playing in the league the following year.

We look forward to another successful year!
